Rod began with SRC in late 2015 as a driver in Evergreen. He had just returned from a year-long sabbatical with his wife and was taking some time to plan his next career step. Working with SRC persuaded him that his work should have meaning, which led to his application to lead the Development and Marketing department in 2016.
Rod comes to SRC with 25 years of marketing and communications experience in the not-for-profit world. Most recently, he worked for AAA Colorado for 11 years, the last eight as its Director of Marketing. Direct responsibilities included membership growth and retention, campaign management and brand management. Before that, he worked eight years in communications and international marketing for the U.S. Meat Export Federation, the last four years as its Director of Program Evaluations. Direct responsibilities included market research, marketing planning, program evaluations and annual reporting to funding sources.
Rod and his wife started a non-profit (Ronesa) private school in Kenya in 2010 to address overcrowded classrooms, few teachers and little to no school supplies in a remote part of Maasailand. The non-profit has since expanded into other community development activities in that area, which includes sponsoring children through primary schooling, building an orphanage, drilling for water, and most recently, developing a soccer program.
